Kyle Raios is living his dream. Nearly 19 years old, Kyle spends his days sleeping in late, going to class, hanging with his wonderful girlfriend Kayla and doing what he loves...writing comic books. For most of his life, Kyle wished to be a paleontologist or a zoologist, and had plans to attend Michigan State University. However, tragedy struck when he discovered Advanced Calculus was apparently necessary to study what a Tiger eats. Disheartened at this terrible news, Kyle turned to a source of comfort in the world of literature, and eventually, comic books. For most of his life, comic book superheroes and baseball were quiet interests, but eventually, the superhero world beckoned. Kyle, finding a new purpose in life, set out to discover all he could about the world of the comic book. Focusing his attention on Marvel, he found new idols in Ed Brubaker and Peter David, and strived to be a writer also worthy of publishing comic books of his own design. In his last year of high school, Kyle and his friend wrote a superhero comedy, “Captain Canada and Copper Boy: Boomsday”, which was performed in October of 2008, propelling Kyle's writing career to a whole new level. Eager to break in to the industry, Kyle began heavily developing his first concept, 'Element', (one he had been gradually and lazily thinking of for at least five years) re-imagining Greek Mythology, and building a new mythos; one that he hoped would launch his career. In Spring of 2008, he would get his chance. Doug Spitz, then owner of Watchtower Comics, directed Kyle to Gene Tipton and Frank Dunbar of 'Shot in the Dark Comics', telling him they were in search of talent and that he should give them a call. Eager and nervous, Kyle wrote the e-mail to Gene that would forever change his life. It took some time, but with help and guidance from Gene, Kyle honed his craft, working hard to perfect his 'Element' concept. Then, on September 7, 2008...one day after his eighteenth birthday, Kyle was officially signed to 'Shot in the Dark Comics' and has been a part of the team ever since, traveling to Baltimore for his first comic-con, helping to recruit talent and get a feel for the comic book world. Nearly a year later, Kyle is still working hard for 'Shot', writing script after script for 'Element', as well as other concepts of his own design, and plans to attend every comic-con he can...but being a poor college student sucks. In his spare time, Kyle tries hard to manage the little money he has, spend as much time with his girlfriend as possible, go bowling with friends, and attempting to learn various bass lines from such bands as 'Judas Priest' and 'Metallica'. In addition to writing comics, Kyle hopes and plans to publish novels, write a few screenplays, and earn his Ph.D in Creative Writing and/or Greek History. He currently lives in Frostburg, Maryland where he attends Frostburg State University, studying Creative Writing. |
