Matt Silvestri Website Bio

As a man easily inspired, I will rob a man I’ve never met of his words:  Before there are branches, there are roots.  As such, I’m going to begin where I began.  As the adopted son of Gregory and Deborah Silvestri, a passion for the arts was cultivated in me from an early age.  I showed an aptitude for theater, the visual arts, and writing and, as a young child, was encouraged to pursue those passions.  For years I pursued the visual arts – drawing, painting, and the like.  However, as I aged, I fell in love with the theater, and eschewed all other passions in pursuit of what I thought would turn into a life on the stage or on the screen – I never did entirely decide.  In my senior year of high school, I found myself fed up with the stresses of the theater.  Ironically enough, I couldn’t deal with all the drama.  So, entering college, I was a bit lost.

For three years I attended Hofstra University as a Fine Arts major, intending to become a graphic designer or a comic book artist.  After those years, I noticed that I simply was not the same person I was as a young child – I enjoyed the visual arts, but I didn’t want to sit and draw or paint or screw around on Photoshop all day long.  I’d have gone insane!  So, I changed my major, to Publishing of all things.  That lasted all of a year, albeit a  very interesting one.  However, after failing a central class for the major, I decided to change once again.  Going into my fifth year of college, I was going to be a Creative Writing major.  Ironically enough, I’ve never looked back.  However, I brought with me a few things from the past – a love and appreciation for art, as well as a good eye for color and composition in art, an enjoyment of the editing process, and a decent editorial eye, and a deep and permanent love of comics.

As a reader, I’m primarily a Marvel man (though once Shot books hit shelves, that’ll change!), but am always up for suggestions.  Right now I’m all about Nova and Immortal Iron Fist, amongst many others.  As a writer, I’m writing The Beacon, the synopsis of which you can find elsewhere on the site.  I hope you like it!  I also hope you like Saltire, The Forgotten, Brix, and The Dundalk Defender, as I’ll be editing those.

I’m absolutely honored and thrilled to be a part of Shot in the Dark Comics, and hope to see you, dear reader, in the future – at cons, on the streets, wherever!  After all, it will be with your help that we can Soar Without Limits!
