Submission Guidelines:

 

 

 

Please follow all guidelines precisely or your submissions may not be considered.

WRITERS:

  • If sending an original idea - Send a script covering one full issue of your original idea, character descriptions, both physical and mannerisms / personality for all main characters, and a story arc synopsis covering 7-15 issues with your overall theme included. Be sure to copyright your idea (posting it on a public location, such as a blog site first is acceptable) before sending it. We are not in the business of taking scripts that go against our Moral Code, located in our Mission Statement.
  • If you desire to write for one of our titles - Send an original script for existing characters (which my be published by other companies) covering at least two full issues. Be sure to pay attention to pacing and character control.
  • Email your submission to: submissions-scripts@shotinthedarkcomics.com and put your Name, Location, and age in the subject line.

PENCILERS:

  • Do NOT send original artwork only send copies. You will not get it back if mailed to us.

  • Do NOT send pinups or character concepts. We cannot determine your abilities from these.

  • Send only 5-7 pages of sequential artwork depicting action scenes and non-action scenes, backgrounds, and drama. You should be working on professional 11 x 17 comic art boards.

  • Do NOT ink them. Send only pencil work.

  • Sample scripts can be found online or you can download ours here.

  • Email your submission to: submissions-art@shotinthedarkcomics.com and put your Name, Location, and age in the subject line, along with the word PENCILER.

INKERS:

  • Do NOT send originals, only copies. You will not get it back if mailed to us.

  • Do NOT ink over your own pencils. We would not be able to determine if an error lies in the pencils or the inks.

  • Send in 5-10 fully inked samples of sequential work, pinups, and character work. These samples should be done with professional quality black india ink. Zip-a-tone work is acceptable. Sample pages for inking my be found online or you may download a page of ours here.

  • Email your submission to: submissions-art@shotinthedarkcomics.com and put your Name, Location, and age in the subject line, along with the word INKER.

COLORISTS:

  • Knowledge of PhotoShop is required.

  • Send in 4-6 digitally rendered color samples in *.pdf format. Include interior, sequential pages, splash pages, and cover work. Sample pages to color may be found online.

  • Email your submission to submissions-art@shotinthedarkcomics.com and put your Name, Location, and age in the subject line, along with the word COLORIST.

LETTERERS and EDITORS:

  • Letterers require knowledge of CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop.

  • Contact us at submissions-art@shotinthedarkcomics.com with your Name, Location, and age in the subject line along with either LETTERER or EDITOR. We will contact you to discuss opportunities with Shot in the Dark Comics.
